Roofing: Types of Coatings

Urethane Roof Coatings - Silicone Roof Coatings - Acrylic Roof Coatings

Acrylic Roof Coatings:

Often referred to as the “original” elastomeric coating, acrylic roof coatings are typically used to protect and restore metal roofs. Over time, however, acrylic coatings have evolved into an excellent restoration solution for many other commercial roofing substrates.

Urethane Roof Coatings:

Urethane roof coatings are just one of the many chemistry types that AWS (American Weatherstar) incorporates into their fluid-applied roofing systems.

Silicone Roof Coatings:

Silicone roof coatings are very popular in the roof coatings industry—and for good reason. Widely considered one of the best roof coatings products on the market today, silicone coatings are a highly versatile elastomeric used for a variety of different applications.

For Fluid Applied Roof Coating Systems, JRC has partnered with American Weather Star (AWS). AWS's core systems are fluid-applied membranes which restore and extend the life of existing commercial roofs.

Increased roof life. Because roof coatings are highly reflective and UV resistant, building owners and facility managers can save money by drastically reducing cooling costs during the summer months. Minimizing the sun’s impact on the roofing surface not only helps to sustain lower energy costs as the system ages, it reduces internal building temperatures and helps extend roof life.

Reduced construction debris. Recent estimates indicate roofing projects generate 40 percent of construction waste entering landfills. When workers apply a roof coating at the proper time in a roof’s life cycle, it can delay the need for costly replacement, as well as prevent the need to tear off and dispose of the old insulation and roofing membrane

Cost Effective. AWS Roof coatings are among the most cost-effective and durable coatings on the market today. Building owners and facility managers can save thousands of dollars by installing an acrylic-based roofing system on their building or structure. Providing an excellent balance of performance and cost are what make acrylic roof coatings such a valuable and sensible solution.

Highly Flexible & Durable: Once applied, roof coatings form a flexible, durable, seamless membrane capable of withstanding wind-driven sand, oxidation, and extreme temperatures. Because the fluid-applied coating is a moisture cure substance, it forms an impermeable seal that resists moisture penetration and protects against effects of ponding water.

Superior Adhesion. AWS Roof Coatings adhere very well to most traditional commercial roofing substrates including: metal, modified bitumen, smooth BUR, spray polyurethane foam, EPDM, TPO, and other single-ply membranes.
